In 1939, Hannah Henry was transferred to the Ridgely Elementary School in the Trinity subdivision of Ridgely. When the schools were integrated in the 60s, she was the first African American teacher assigned to the previously all white Ridgely elementary School where she taught until she retired in 1975. On April 1st, the Town of Ridgely officially proclaimed April 8th, 2019. as ‘Hannah Henry Day’, celebrating her 106th birthday. A follow-up meeting to plan 2020’s celebration has been scheduled for May 24th, 6pm at the Trinity Church in Ridgely. See below.
