Ole Time Ridgely Days (OTRD)
On May 2nd, 2015, the 8th Ole Time Ridgely Days will be held from 10am-3pm in Railroad Memorial Park. The event began in 2008 as an idea from Cathy Schwab, President of the Ridgely Historical Society, and Brenda Walls, owner of the Ridgely Pharmacy and Ice Cream Parlor to have a small ice cream social in the park. However the idea grew even before the first event even occurred. The draw was to have ice cream, sodas and hot dogs, all for 25 cents each and surround it with other vendors, kids activities, rides, music, etc. The event has remained basically the same the first Saturday of every May except for one change. The ice cream, sodas and hot dogs were increased to 50 cents each in 2011. Still a good deal – a hot dog, a can of soda and a scoop of ice cream all for $1.50 (while supplies last). To make this event possible, special thanks should be given to Tri-Me Warehouse, the Pharmacy in Ridgely, and Save-A-Lot in Greensboro who have donated hot dogs, buns and/or ice cream for every one of the events, and most recently, Walmart. And also thanks to Pepsi for donating the sodas, and Phyto-Nursury for donating plants. Money made from this event was instrumental in ensuring Ridgely acquired its 15 1/2 foot clock that resides in the park across the street from Town Hall. It also helps fund other projects sponsored by the Ridgely Historical Society.
